Effect of methods and rate of phosphorus application on the vegetative growth of wheat plants.

Abstract: The felid experiment was performed throughout two successive seasons of 2000-2001 and 2001-2002, at the farm of Rosas Department Constantine, Algeria, to study the range action of addition of P on vegetative growth of wheat plants under local conditions of Algeria. The three treatments of Po, Ps and Pr (without P, dressing P and spraying P) were carried out at 50 ppm. Two thirds of superphosphate was added at plantation and the rest 15 days later; whereas, one % of NaHPO4 was sprayed after 30, 35 and 40 days from plantation. The results of this experiment were summarized as follows: - The dry weight of vegetative growth was significantly increased by the addition of P in both methods as compared with that of untreated one. - The leaf number and tiller number were also increased by phosphorus addition as dressing and spraying application during the vegetating and heading stages. Total content of P in the matter of the vegetative growth in both methods (spraying and dressing) were increased. Moreover, the dressing application of P had more P content than that of spraying method.
